News Came in Dinakaran. Yeep! Jayalalitha related news and Photos started coming in Dinakaran. It’s COOL…

The release of Sivaji: The Boss yesterday marked not only the return of superstar Rajnikant to the silver screen, but also a reconciliation of sorts between him and former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalitha.

Jayalalitha was a surprise invitee to a special screening of the film by the producers AVM Group yesterday morning. The AIADMK supremo was among scores of movie buffs that watched AVM Production’s mega budget movie on the first day of its release.

Jaya Television, the channel identified with Jayalalitha’s AIADMK, carried flattering news stories on Sivaji and its release in its news bulletins throughout the day.

This denoted a marked shift from the days when the superstar was considered a ‘staunch ally’ of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and a stern foe of Jayalalitha.

Rajnikant is known to have played a crucial role in the 1996 state assembly elections that led to a humiliating defeat of Jayalalitha. Rajni, then a neighbour of Jayalalitha, was provoked into joining the opposition forces against her, following security restrictions on his movements to prevent his fans from gathering in the neighbourhood.

The mega star, who frequently refers to Chief Minister M Karunanidhi as “my friend”, arranged a special screening of Sivaji for the DMK patriarch and his family on Monday evening. But the actor did not campaign for the DMK in the last two assembly elections and has continued to stay out of politics. The Jayalalitha-Rajnikant thaw, according to observers, signals a move towards the formation of a third front at the national and state levels. Jayalalitha and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu are the main forces behind the third front, which Rajnikant has already been invited to join.
