The suspense is over. Sivaji has qualified for a total tax benefit as befits films with Tamil titles, as announced by the State Government.
The magnum opus starring Rajnikant received exemption from entertainment tax after Commercial Officer (Taxes), identified the film title as falling under the proper noun category.
It was deliberated in every street corner whether Sivaji was a Tamil title. Will the movie be entitled for an exemption from the entertainment tax? The debate has come to an end now.
The State government has accepted that Sivaji is a Tamil title indeed and the movie would enjoy an entertainment tax exemption.
It may be recalled that the Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had announced recently that entertainment tax would be exempted on movies carrying Tamil titles.
Following the announcement, several movies opted for Tamil titles and producers welcomed the State government’s decision and a grand function was organized by the Tamil film fraternity to honor Chief Minister for showing concern towards the film industry.
Now with producers of Sivaji (AVM) would go happy for Sivaji is one of the big-budgeted films and is expected to make a big business at the box office.
