The benchmark index hit a record high of 13,486.74 points in early trade on Wednesday on sustained buying by foreign funds and domestic investors, fuelled by firming global markets.

The BSE-30 share Sensex, which rose by 116 points on Tuesday, was up by by 87.74 points at 13,486.74 five minutes after opening.

Similarly, the National Stock Exchange index, Nifty, gained 24.25 points at 3,883.00.

Major gainers were Bajaj Auto, Infosys Technologies, Tata Consultancy, Larsen and Toubro, Satyam Computers, Reliance Industries, Dr Reddy’s Lab, Wipro, HDFC Ltd, Reliance Energy, ONGC, Reliance Capital and Maruti.
