Actress Raadhika Sarathkumar was expelled from the party on Wednesday(October 18) by party general secretary J Jayalalithaa.

In a statement here, Jayalalithaa said “Raadhika has been relieved from the primary membership and other responsibilities in the AIADMK for her anti-party activities.” She said Raadhika had acted against the principles and policies of the AIADMK and in a manner, which would tarnish the image of the party. As such, the party cadre should not have any contact with Raadhika, Jayalalithaa said.

Though Jayalalithaa did not specify the violations by Raadhika, party sources said that the actor’s failure to campaign for the AIADMK in the local body elections and her decision to attend the felicitation function of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi organised by the film industry were among the reasons.

However, Raadhika gave a fresh twist to the issue by claiming that she was not a member of any political party. “It is very surprising since I do not consider myself a member of any party. How can I be expelled when I am not a member?” she asked.
