The DMK party has finally decided to bring in party chief M Karunanidhi’s daughter Kanimozhi into politics.
She is the party nominee for the June 15 Rajya Sabha elections along with Trichy Siva, a former Lok Sabha member and loyalist of the DMK chief’s politician son Stalin.
“I don’t know how to react but I would like to continue talking about things that I have believed in and talked about,” Kanimozhi told CNN-IBN.
Apart from being the DMK chief’s daughter, Kanimozhi is better known as a poet in Tamil Nadu.
The decision to nominate them for the Rajya Sabha was taken at a high level meeting on Saturday evening.
When asked if her father had given her any tips on the upcoming New Delhi experience, Kanimozhi told CNN-IBN, “Not yet but I am sure I will get enough.”
Kanimozhi is also tipped for a ministerial post at the Centre. She had emerged as a possible replacement for the DMK at the Centre following the ouster of Dayanidhi Maran from the Union Cabinet as the IT and Communications Minister.
Maran’s post was filled up by A Raja from DMK, though the post of Minister of State for Commerce in the Manmohan Singh Ministry remains vacant.
After Maran’s ouster from the Cabinet, it seems Karunanidhi is trying to regain his foothold by ensuring that his son Stalin represents him at the state level and daughter Kanimozhi at the Centre.
