Former AIADMK MLA V. Paneerselvam has been sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment and asked to pay a fine of Rs 10, 000 while his two wives have been sentenced to one year RI and told to pay a fine of Rs 5, 000 each in a disproportionate assets case by a special court here. Special Court judge Dakshinamurthy who delivered the sentence, however, suspended it for two months to enable the former MLA and his wives to file their appeal. He also directed them to execute a bond of Rs.20,000 each and two sureties for a like sum. The Vigilance and Anti-corruption wing had registered a case against Mr. Paneerselvam on March 7, 1997 for the period 1992-1996 when he was MLA of Theni constituency under sections pertaining to the Prevention of Corruption Act and 109 IPC.
