Chennai lad Narain Shankar ruled the roost winning both the races in the second edition of the JK Tyre Racing Cup motor sports series held here at the MMSC race track at Irungattukottai, Sriperumbudur, near here today.

It was a beehive of activity at the track with drivers in 19 cars from Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Kerala and Chennai and Narain Shankar of Rams Racing, one of the famous teams in Motor Racing, showed his class in the first and second editions of the six-legged championship.

Shankar, who has more experience than his rivals in Formula Maruti Single Seater (FISMME) car was a cut above the rest. After qualifying first on the pole among 19 cars on the grid, Shankar was swift at the start and then showed his skills building up impressive lead to finish about 15 seconds ahead of his nearest rival and team-mate, Sudarshan Rao.

Delhi’s Rohit Khanna of Team Wallace Sports was third.

In the second race, Shankar, who had the fastest first race lap time of 1min 14.851 secs,made it a start to finish affair.Delhi’s Nishchay (Wallace Sports) was second and Sudarshan Rao settled for third spot.

The only aberration on a trouble free day of events was Mumbai’s Sumit Maluja, who was forced to be a spectator as his car developed some ‘technical problem’ during the formation lap.

Results:

Race one: 1. Narain Shankar 12:41.558, 2. Sudarshan Rao 12:55.390, 3. Rohit Khanna 12:58.116.

Race Two: 1. Narain Shankar 12:37.491, 2. Nishchay 12:51.345 and 3. Sudarshan Rao 12:51.680.
