Chennai lass Rohini Rau has been selected to represent India at the ISAF World Sailing Championships 2007 at Cascais (Portugal) from 28 June to 13 July. This event is also the first qualifier for the 2008 Olympic games at Beijing.
The Laser Radial class has been introduced in the Olympic Games for the first time as the ‘Single-hander class for women’ and Rohini will be the first Indian woman to take part in the Laser Radial World Championship, a press release said.
As part of the training towards the World Championship, she will participate in the following events in Europe:
- Semaine Olympique Francais, Hyeres, France (15- 27 April)
- Europa Cup, Hoorn, the Netherlands (11-13 May)
- Holland Regatta, Medemblik, the Netherlands (23-27 May)
- Kieler Woche, Kiel, Germany (15-20 June)
Rohini will be leaving on 13 April for France.
