Actress Sujatha, best known for her movies like Annakili, Vidhi and Avargal, passed away on Wednesday, April 6 morning at her residence here. in Chennai. She was 58. Sujatha was reportedly suffering from severe health problems over the past few months. Sujatha was undergoing treatment for a heart ailment, died of cardiac arrest.

Sujatha was introduced to the Tamil film industry by Director K. Balachander as the protagonist in “Aval Oru Thodarkathai.”

Sujatha was born in Sri Lanka on December 10, 1952 and grew up in Kerala. She acted in more than 300 films including Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi languages for more than 4 decades.Sujatha debuted in Telugu films with ‘Gorintaku’ directed by Dasari Narayana Rao in 1979. In all, she worked in more than 300 Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi films since she began her acting career in 1968.

Actress Sujatha played mother to Rajinikanth in Baba (2002) and her most recent film, which was a big success was Varaalaru (2005) with Ajith Kumar. Sujatha was last seen in the Telugu film ‘Sri Ramadasu’ in 2006. She also acted in the Hindi film ‘Ek Hi Bhool’.

She is survived by husband Jayakar, son Sajid and daughter Divya.
