Desiya Murpoku Dravida Kazhagam chief Vijayakant said today that he was not interested in national politics, and would confine himself to State. But he is keeping the options for alliance with other parties for the Lok Sabha polls wide open.
‘I don’t aspire to become the Prime Minister of India as my interest was only in Tamilnadu. The question of alliance with other parties for the Parliamentary elections will be dealt with as and when we cross the bridge,’ said the actor and DMDK leader. He was speaking at the mass wedding organised by his party here this morning in which 50 poor couples tied the nuptial knot. For the united couples, mangal sutra and other items of daily use to run their families were distributed by Vijayakanth, spending at least Rs one lakh per couple.
Urging the couples to lead a happy life with understanding, he recalled so far 2,000 poor couples got married under the party’s initiative. Taking a dig at both the DMK and the AIADMK, Vijayakanth said the people of Tamilnadu were not a happy lot. ‘More youths are unemployed. The State government should bring in welfare schemes for poor and not the rich,’ he said.
The DMDK was carrying out all the welfare schemes it had announced during the polls, except for one or two like the 2-acre land and free colour television, he said. He had entered politics to work for the people and not to become rich, he declared. Denying that he had entered into politics after getting fed up with films, Vijayakanth said on the contrary he has at present five film projects on hand. Source: NewsToday
