SWC to hold inquiry into Nurse Jayalakshmi case on June 4

State Women’s Commission (SWC) will commence its inquiry on June four into the complaint of alleged sexual harassment lodged by nurse Jayalakshmi against BJP MLA Renukacharya, its top official said on Wedenesday.

“The commission will summon the witnesses adduced by Jayalakshmi in support of her charges of sexual harassment”, Chairperson of SWC, Pramila Nesargi told, a day after Jayalakshmi released to the media some intimate photographs of her and Renukacharya.

Responding to the commission’s notice, Jayalakshmi and Renukacharya appeared before the commission on May 5, she said.

The commission provided a copy of Jayalakshmi’s complaint to Renukacharya, Nesargi said.

Nesargi said when the case was pending before SWC, the National Women Commission has no powers to intervene, obviously referring to Jayalakshmi approaching the NWC with a petition.

Jayalakshmi has said she has no faith in getting justice from SWC, headed by Nesargi, who belongs to BJP.

Jayalakshmi had also alleged earlier that Renukacharya was forcing her to marry him. Dismissing her charges as ‘false’, the BJP MLA has said he was contemplating filing a defamation suit against her for tarnishing his image.
