MBA Students in Movie Marketing (Film Industry)
Large corporates often introduce new products to the market. Marketing experts do a lot of brainstorming, resulting in innovative ideas. Similar is the case, whenever a new movie is released. But the film industry and the business schools have never worked together.
Minveli Media Works is producing the film, “Krishnaveni Panjaalai” to create an identity for itself in the industry. This movie which is woven around the life of cotton mill workers is in the final stages of production. For the first time in the Tamil film industry, this film is implementing the marketing strategies with the MBA students.
More than 100 students from various colleges across Tamilnadu attended the 2 day Orientation Program on the “Effective Campaigns in Movie Marketing” in Chennai on September 7th and 8th.
The first day session began with confidence building & skill development program by Mr.Vidyashakar, CEO – Only Success and their trainer Mr.Sakthi.
The Managing Director of Minveli Media Works , Mr. Dhanapal Padmanabhan who is also the producer and Director of “Krishnaveni Panjaalai” was in the dais with Director BaluMahendra, MLA and Founder of MaFoi – Mr.K.Pandiarajan, Mr.Chanramohan Pani – Reliance Media Works, Mr.Dhanajayan – Southern CEO UTV, Mr.Prabhu – Studio green who addressed the gathering.
“In the present scenario youth and their innovative ideas are required to take the good movies and low budget movies to the masses. Same time this program gives an opportunity for the students to interact with the top leaders in the film industry” said Mr.Dhanapal Padmanabhan
“At present Rs.700 crores in invested in the film Industry every year and is expected to reach Rs. 2.0 Lakh crores in the coming years. This program would showcase the upcoming opportunities for the students in the industry” said Mr. MaFoi. K. Pandiarajan.
Mr.Dhanajayan of UTV during his speech said “You have to extend full support for the success of “Krishnaveni Panjaalai”. There is a lot of scope for marketing in the Tamil film industry. This would also offer you good job opportunities.”
Reliance CEO Mr.ChandraMohan Pani said “You have entered an industry full of opportunities and you have to put efforts to take good movies to the masses. I appreciate Mr.Dhanapal Padmanabhan for the novel idea of marketing movies with MBA students.”
“Studio Green” Prabhu said, “I heard the songs in the movie, they have come out really well and, I believe the movie should have also come out well”
Director Balu Mahendra’s said “Pleasant films made from the life of the people, for the people are nice films. I would say, nice films which fetch reasonable returns for the investment are good films”
Next Day, Producer and Director of the movie Mr.Dhanapal, spoke about the objective of making this film, its need and experiences. He also explained about the steps taken to reach the audience.
Mr. Prakash Padmanabhan, Project Head from Minveli Media Works made a power point presentation guiding the students on the Marketing Strategies, the techniques to be implemented in taking the movie to the masses.
“Prime Point” Srinivasan, explained about the techniques in marketing, the strength of the Social networks and their usage. He also spoke about the failures in marketing caused due to the communication gaps and missing public relations
“Nam Thozhi” Editor – Mr.Murugesh Babu said “Create news which attracts to the attention of the Local newspapers, Cable TVs, periodicals, and reporters. Unique thoughts would gain attention from the media”
Distributor Mr.Ramkrishanan from Madurai said, “In my 25 years of film industry experience, I have never seen such an attempt and I’m sure the audience would support this”
Scientist & Secretary to former President Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam, Mr.Ponraj was the Chief Guest. “MGR was the first person to utilize a mass media like films effectively. Latest technologies help us in reaching the public and marketing. We can utilize these for our success. If you take this experience as career guiding you would come across a lot of opportunities” he said.
Krishnveni Panjaalai’s hero Mr.Hemachandran, sportively answered the questions like “Did the Director scold you during the shooting? Where you comfortable while acting in the love sequences? Do you have prior experience in love?” etc from the students.
“Students would be evaluated during the internship and awards would be given at the end of the project. Following that, students would also be introduced to organizations for employment” said Mr.Dhanapal Padmanabhan. Amazed by the job opportunity and confidence in winning, the energy and enthusiasm reflected in the faces of students. This program is a good “Career Guidance” said a lot of students with a great zeal.
