It was oozing glamour and glitz at the 55th Tiger Balm Filmfare Awards (South) 2007, at the Nehru Indoor Stadium.

Paruthiveeran made a near-clean sweep winning six of the 12 awards in the Tamil category. It won the awards in the following categories:

Best Actor- Karthi, Best Actress- Priyamani, Best Director- Ameer, Best Actor in Supporting Role (Male) – Saravanan, Best Actor in Supporting Role (Female) – Sujatha. Above all the film won the coveted Best Film Award for its producer Gnanavel Raja. This is what one might call a walkover!

The other awards in the popular category included Best Music Director AR Rahman for his scintillating score in Sivaji. Lyricist Pa Vijay bagged the award for his lilting lyrics for Unnale Unnale’s title track. SP Balasubramaniyam won the Best Playback (Male) for the song Kannal Pesum Penne from Mozhi, while Sadhana Sargam got the Best Playback (Female) for the song Akkam Pakkam from Kireedam.

KV Anand walked away with the Best Cinematographer award for Sivaji while Prem Rakshit was conferred the Best Choreographer title for Azhagiya Tamil Magan. Veteran actor Sivakumar received a standing ovation as he was presented with the Lifetime Award for his achievements in the industry.

While it was a clean sweep again in Tollywood for Sekhar Kamula’s Happy Days, which won six out of the twelve awards, including best film and director, the Sandalwood awards were shared between Aa Dinagalu and Duniya.

The event wherein the bold, the beautiful and the brazen from Kollywood had all converged was a night that celebrated talent and feted creative brilliance in the field of entertainment.
