Swarnalatha, Popular playback singer, known for her incredible voice dynamics, died at a private hospital at 11.20am on Sunday due to a lung infection. She was 37.
According to her family, she had been suffering from a lung conditon for many months. She complained of breathlessness and was rushed to a private hospital in Adyar, where she passed away. She won national award for best singer for ‘Porale Ponnuthayi’ in the ‘Karuthamma’.
The national-award-winning singer, who has sung nearly 6,000 songs in seven Indian languages, made her debut in ‘Neethikku Thandanai’ with the song ‘Chinnachiru Kiliye Kannamma,’ set to music by composer M.S.Viswanathan.
She had sung songs in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, Bengali and Badaga for leading composers, including Illayaraja and A.R.Rahman.
