Chennai Port Trust has extended its reign on the all-India Major Ports carrom title winning the team championship in the ninth edition of the event here on Saturday.Chennai defeated Mumbai Port Trust 2-0 in the final.Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust blanked Vishakapatnam 2-0 to take the third place.

In the individual men’s singles event, second seeded Shailendra P. Bhave of Mumbai beat K. Srinivasa Reddy of Chennai 25-11, 25-7 to make it to the last four.Ananda V. Vaidya of Mumbai also beat E. Murali of Chennai 25-9, 1-25, 25-11 to join his teammate in the last four. All the semifinals and finals will be played on Monday.

In the veteran’s doubles semifinals, S. Gunashekaran and S. Elangoan of Chennai beat S. Sathiraj and Rambabu of Vishakapatnam 25-0, 25-7, while Ramesh S. Chavan and C.S. Purnaik of Mumbai beat S.D. Gosatkar and P. Ananthaiah of Jawaharlal Nehru Port 25-5, 25-0 to set up a title clash with the Chennai team.

In the veteran’s singles, S. Gunashekaran of Chennai and team mate S. Elangoan have entered the finals beating C.S. Puranik and Ramesh S. Chawan, both of Mumbai in straight games.
