India’s Saurav Ghosal, ranked 46th in the world, lost to higher ranked Olli Touminen of Finland 5-11, 3-11, 8-11 in the men’s main draw at the Bear Sterns Tournament of Champions, a press release from the Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI) said here today.Touminen is ranked 18th in the world.

In the qualifying rounds, Saurav Ghosal defeated David Barnett and Chris Simpson (both England).Cyrus Poncha, national coach, SRFI, said, “Saurav got an opportunity to compete with some of the best squash players in the world. We are happy that he gave his best shot and entered the main draw which has given tremendous prospect for his growth.”

This is Ghosal’s second main draw appearance in a super series event after reaching the main draw in the Pakistan Open in November 2003. He is the only Indian to win a medal in squash at the Asian Games last year.

The world’s top squash players take part in the Bear Sterns Tournament of Champions, a $ 70,000 PSA super series event.
