Tyre maker MRF Ltd has declared a lockout from December 3 at one of its oldest plants in Chennai over a bonus dispute, a company spokesman and labour union leader said on Friday.

The plant employs 1,470 workers, a leader of the left leaning Centre of Indian Trade Unions said. He declined to be named.

An MRF spokesman said a lockout has been declared and reconciliation talks were on.

The capacity of the plant or the loss in production could not be ascertained. MRF has two other plants in Kottayam in Kerala and Goa. Source: reuters
