This is the mail from organizer regading the detail of the festival.
1. Details of the festival
a) The Festival will start with Ameer’s Raam, in Luxemburg. 3 movies will be screened this year by the group “Cinéma Utopia”.
Raam will be the first movie. The second one (a movie from Cheran, ) could be in September, and the third one (I hope : Veyil) in december.
b) It is the first time we have a Festival (according to me) about Tamil movies, in France or Luxemburg.
European people know only Bollywood. My company (Les Tréteaux de Feu) was the first (in 2008) to give the chance to the Tamil film industry to step into the French Theaters.
c) Something special ?
The first special thing is that we will have, for the first time GOOD french subtitles and a new tamil film duration : 2h (thanks to you !!!).
The second special thing is that the tamil movies, who will be screened, will be for the french and european audience, and not for the tamil diaspora !
Some Tamil films can reach the french audience…( I’m working therefore !) and Raam is one of them !
d) The festival in Luxemburg is sponsorised by the Indian Chamber of Traid (commerce) and Industry from Luxemburg.
One of the screenings in France, is sponsorised by a french council : “Le Conseil Régional de Midi Pyrénées”. As Raam is a student story, the “Conseil Régional de Midi Pyrénées” gave money for Ameer’s coming in a big secondary school, in South of France. This secondary school develops, there, an education programm about the indian Culture. (This Programm was agreed by the “Ministère de l’Education nationale” (National Education ministery).
It is a very big step for the tamil cinema !
The France film Board will send some people to the screenings, in Paris.
2) My part in the festival ?
My part in the festival is total !!!
I select the movies, I meet the tamil directors, producers and distributors, I work on the editings, the subtitles, I find the partners or sponsors, in France or Luxemburg, I produce some screenings, I organize the programmation of the screenings…etc, etc.
The tamil journalists must understand that what happends in France and Luxemburg is a beginning… Tamil movies can reach the european market.
French people are more and more interested in Tamil Nadu…and the french film production is… looking your side… Up to you (tamil) to show that you are ready to work with us…!
2.
About Franck Priot :
Mahesh, I’m in touch with Franck Priot, and one of his assistant, Caroline, since two years. (He made the France co production book I gave you, last august.)
I will invite him to the screening in Paris.
He is going, every year to India, to explain what is a co production between our two countrys. I asked him to go in Tamil Nadu… Guess he will come, if you heard of him !
