Lalgudi – 80, Celebrating the Journey of a Music Legend…

Pre-event meet

Chennai, TN, September 6^th, 2010:  Shri. Lalgudi Jayaraman, one of the living legends of Carnatic music known throughout the world for his soul-touching performances in Carnatic music and his mesmerizing music, turns 80 this year.  It gives us great pleasure to celebrate this occasion with a two day commemorating event, honoring his yeomen service and contribution to music. This event will be followed by ‘Arpanam’ – jugalbandi concerts in November 2010 in Chennai and Bangalore, between Smt. Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi on the Violin with Shri Murad Ali on the Sarangi.

As part of the commemoration function, we are working towards preserving and archiving the life, journey, great work and contributions of the legend, so as to make available to students, researchers and music lovers through the media in future. In this regard, there are a set of CD / DVD releases, biography and screening of a documentary film on Shri Lalgudi Jayaraman during the 2-day event.

The two day commemoration events are to be held at The Music Academy, Chennai.

Event Highlights on September 18^th and 19^th

September 18^th

6 00 pm onwards

• Releasing of the CD “Raga Rasa” Composed by Shri Lalgudi GJR Krishnan and Smt Lalagudi Vijayalakshmi, by His Excellency, The Governor of Tamilnadu.

• Excerpts from the Biography of Shri. Lalgudi Jayaraman to be presented

• The CD will be received & key note address will be delivered by Hon’ble Member of Parliament Ms Kanimozhi.
• Special address by Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna and Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam.
• A live Orchestral Presentation comprising 45 artiste on stage will be presenting compositions of the Maestro Shri Lalgudi Jayaraman and, from the CD – ‘Raga Rasa’

• Preview of documentary film on Shri Lalgudi Jayaraman
• Other musical performances by students of Shri Lalgudi Jayaraman including senior disciples, Smt. Bombay Jaishri and Smt. Vishaka Hari

6.00 pm onwards

• Felicitation function of Shri Lalgudi Jayaraman by Shri Gopalkrishna Gandhi, Former Governor of West Bengal. Special Guests for the event –
