The Tamil Nadu Government has taken a new initiative for a joint action plan to control vector-borne diseases like chikungunya and dengue in the region.

The health officials today met under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary L K Tripathy and discussed the new measures to prevent spreading chikungunya in the state.

During the meeting, it was decided to appoint one person in each village, under the rural health mission funds, to eliminate mosquitoes.

Besides, the meeting also discussed to carry out ani-mosquitoe spraying measures especially on the bus and other vehicles, which are coming from the neighbouring states.

The health officials from southern states had met here on May 28 to share information on vector-borne diseases besides strengthening of joint surveillance.
