GUIDELINES AND INSTRUCTIONS TO THE DONOR AND NEAR RELATIVES
- The body of the said donor after death, should be transported without lapse of time (preferably within 8 – 24 hrs to the Govt.Medical College of Tamil Nadu or Govt. Hospital (Main GH). GH Phone Nos. 25305000 / 25305723 / 25305721.
- The legal heirs or near relatives may be requested to intimate the death of the donor to the Dean / RMO of the nearby teaching Medical Institution may arrange for the transportation of the body to the teaching Medical Institution.
- The said body should be accompanied by a Death Certificate issued by a competent authority clearly indicating the cause and time of death. The relatives while handing over the body, they can obtain the Death Certificate from the G.H. itself instead of going to Local Municipal office / Corporation office. Apart from this the G.H. will issue Certificate of Thanks for the Donors.
- The body will be received on all working days from 8.30 to 3.30 pm. At the department of Anatomy. During non-working hours and holidays the body can be kept in the Mortuary of the hospital on necessary request to the Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of the GH and the same intimated to the Department at the earliest opportunity.
- The Death should be natural and / or due to naturally occurring diseases. The body will not be accepted in cases of Medico – legal issues, suicide and poisoning.
- The Donors can donate their eyes as per their wish to any institution. For eye donation, the same can be communicated to the concerned institution within 4 hours time.
- In case if the Donors Son / Daughter was in abroad and they were unable to come immediately, the relatives while handing over the body to GH can give a request letter in writing stating the clear reason of arrival of the Donors Son / Daughter (whoever), so that the Body will kept in preservation box. Maximum time for preservation 1 to 6 months.
- GH is permitting the Donors relatives, who want to do some ceremony, in the Prayer Hall of Anatomy room of Madras Medical College subject to prior intimation to the concerned authorities.
- In case if the Donors have HIV / Hepatitis problem, the body will not take for Research purpose, it will immediately handed over to their relatives.
Further, if the Donor’s relatives could not able to contact GH, they can be in touch with Mr. Ashok Kumar & Mrs. Chitra Ashok over Mobile No. 97908 77798 who will guide you / co-ordinate with you in all aspects.
