Mahesh in his will wrote “I wish my friends come together to help Cancer Institute in its fight against cancer”
Chennai, 14 April 2009: The Mahesh Memorial Trust (MMT) today handed over a fully finished 22,000 square feet, 50 bed paediatric ward to Dr. Shanta chairperson Cancer Institute (W.I.A) Adyar. The building was inaugurated by Mihir Shah, a 10 year old cancer survivor, in the presence of Hon’ble Justice Prabha Sridevan, Judge Madras High Court, A.R Rahman renowned music composer and Mr. N. Srinivasan, Managing Director, India Cements.
MMT was formed in 2002 by friends of Mahesh to give shape to his desire. MMT committed itself to building a paediatric Ward in the Cancer Institute premises. Over the last five years the required funds were raised with the help of friends and well wishers. More importantly the Trustees personally committed their time in overseeing the entire execution of the project from design through construction to completion.
This pediatric block caters to the needs of children aged 3 to 10. The facility houses General wards, independent rooms, an ICU, Procedure rooms, Consulting rooms, Telemedicine facilities, Library, Dining room, Meditation room, Montessori study room and a children’s play area.
Mahesh Mahadevan passed away in October 2002, after battling cancer for 14 years. An MBA from XLRI, Jamshedpur, he was Director of Finance and Administration at Real Image Media Technologies at the time. He had also composed several advertising jingles as well as music for movies. Prior to his demise, Mahesh was actively involved in cancer counseling and in motivating other cancer patients to approach treatment with a positive attitude.
Mahesh Memorial Trust is committed to the cause of cancer detection and treatment in children and collaborating with the Cancer Institute. We intend to focus on treatment, especially to children who lack the means to quality care. The Trust aims to continue raising funds to support paediatric Cancer Care.
