The Sportstar Open golf tournament will be held at the Gymkhana Club links (Guindy) on August 18 and 19. The two-day stroke-play event is open to amateur golfers.

As many as 100 golfers are expected to take part in the event. The medal-round event for Open and Handicap sections will be held on Saturday and Sunday with the first tee off at 11-30 a.m. There will also be a bogey competition on Saturday and a stableford on Sunday.

Golf captain D. Nagaraj said: “thanks to the excellent rains in the last few weeks, the course is in great shape, and we should see some high quality golf. Since we are playing from back tees and have not cut roughs, the course will show its bite if the wind picks up in the afternoon. .”

Darshan Veeraraghavan, who recently won the MRC Cup two weeks back, starts as the favourite.

Chasing him are Arjun Rao and Pradyumna Prakash, who has done well on the national junior and amateur scene. C.V. Yudhvir, Arun Murugaappan and Samir Mammen, Hemant Sinha are expected to return good cards too.
State-ranking tennis

The Lemuria Tennis Academy will organise the Marbaselios State-ranking tournament under the auspices of the TNTA from August 25 to September 1 at the Mar Gregarious College in Mogappair West.

The tournament is for boys and girls in the under-12 and 14 groups (ranking) and u-10 (non-ranking).

Cricket tournament

The AVM Rajeswari cricket tournament for under-12 boys will commence on August 19 at the Avichi school ground, Virugambakkam.

AVM K. Shanmugam will inaugurate the knock-out tournament, which will see 24 teams in action.
