With popular networking sites as their tool, spurned lovers are closing in on their ‘chosen targets’. With cyber stalkers prowling in the digital world, it is youngsters who fall prey the most. One such is a 20-year-old city college girl who was shocked to find her contact number doing the rounds on a meet-up site. This was the handiwork of a man who proposed to her in real life. Unable to take her rejection in his stride, the angry ‘lover’ had done the dirty thing on the net. Even though she knows the identity of the man, she is hesitant to take legal action, considering the unwanted disturbances that might impact her personal life. Instead she has decided to change her mobile number. ‘But prior to that I had to deal with many vulgar suitors,’ she says mournfully.

Social networking sites, which give room to angry and spurned lovers, are now burgeoning, and kinky men looking for ‘friendship, love, companionship’ (read sex) all inevitably land up there. As it happens, even girls are coming out of the closet of convention and conservatism, and are making their provocative moves on the net.

Suresh, a respectable banker, posted his profile on a social networking site just a month ago. He has already received five calls from girls.  Suresh hastily withdrew from the loop, but Dipesh, a handsome college boy was not so lucky. His name and contact number was posted with the succinct message ‘cheating wives can call me’. Dipesh, a son of doctor parents, now is running for cover as he is unable to handle the calls.

A cyber law expert explained ‘a girl or boy who finds his/her number being misused in any website can register a complaint under Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000 for online obscenity. This offence is punishable with five years imprisonment and Rs 1 lakh fine. The same section can also be invoked against the website and the ISP who is providing the internet connectivity.

But, as any crime specialist will tell you, no law howsoever strong it may be is good enough to stop depraved minds. Source:NewsToday
