The family members of Professor G V Loganathan, who was killed in the shooting spree at the Virginia Tech University, have arrived at the institute to perform his last rites.

As many as nine members of the Loganathan family flew into the Dulles International Airport, Virginia, where they were met by staffers of the Indian Embassy. They were escorted from the main terminal at Dulles to the chartered terminal on their way to the Virginia Tech campus.

Professor Loganathan was one of the two Indians who were gunned down by a 23-year-old South Korean national at the Campus during a bloody rampage that left 32 persons, faculty and students, dead on Monday. The gunman Cho Sueng-Hui turned the weapon on himself bringing the total toll to 33.

Loganathan and 26-year-old Minal Panchal were in the same classroom when Cho gunned them down on Monday morning. Panchal was a first year Master’s degree student intending to finish her programme in Architecture.

Panchal’s family is in the United States, her mother already here visiting her other daughter.

However, there is no final news on when the last rites for Loganathan and Panchal are going to be performed as authorities, as of yesterday afternoon, are yet to return their bodies. While Dr.Loganathan’s funeral is expected to take place in Blacksburg, Panchal’s last rites are expected to be performed in Baltimore, Maryland.

Meanwhile more than 100 Indian students are said to have conducted a Joint Prayer Service at a Mandir in Roanoke, Virginia. Source: Hindu
