The chain reaction triggered by the Madurai Dinakaran episode in the DMK looks like racing towards its logical end with the voice of opposition within the DMK president’s family is growing at a rapid pace to oust Dayanidhi Maran from the party and strip him of his Parliament membership. According to informed sources in DMK and the government, the demand for the ouster of Dayanidhi Maran from the primary membership of the party intensified when news broke out that some MPs and MLAs of the party owing allegiance to late Murasoli Maran started getting in touch with the former Union Information and Communications Minister.

It is also said Karunanidhi is being pressurised to relieve Maran of his Central Chennai Parliament seat for his continuing anti party activity of trying to lobby support by instigating his loyalists. ‘If Maran is allowed to continue in the party it may be detrimental to the interests and growth of the party’ appears to be line of argument taken up by most members of the DMK chief’s family, it is said. Meanwhile, efforts to launch a new television channel and a Tamil newspaper to protect and foster the interests of the DMK is also being contemplated.

Talks are said to have begun among the top leaders of the party like K Anbazhagan, Arcot Veerasamy and others to evaluate whether such a move would be feasible and suit the agenda of a political party like the DMK. Source: NewsToday
