Rameswaram, A refugee love story

The shooting for ITA Films’ Rameswaram, an offbeat love story is taking place amidst tight security in Chennai. In a specially created set resembling the refugee dwellings and the streets, director S Selvam is shooting some key portions on Jeeva and Bhavana, the lead pair.

Jeeva who is emerging as a serious actor, bagged a plum role after the much acclaimed, Ram and here he plays a refugee from Sri Lanka. He meets a local politician’s daughter Bhavana and falls in love with her. Amidst many hurdles, how the lovers unite is the crux of the story, says the director.

Lal plays the politician and Venniradai Nirmala, the heroines grandmother. Manivannan is cast as a Tamil teacher in Jafna. Before the commencement of the shoot, Jeeva learnt how to pronounce Sri Lankan Tamil so that he can be perfect while delivering the dialogue. Director Selvam had earlier worked as an assistant to Bharathi Raja and Pavithran. He says that though it is a film based on a refugees life, there are no political overtones and it is a pure love story. Niru composed the music and MK Ekambaram cranked the camera.
