Air Deccan is launching its direct flight from Madurai to Bangalore on October 30. This was announced by Mr Krishnaswamy, the chief corporate planning, Air Deccan, while addressing the press in Madurai on Tuesday. He said that a 72 seater ATR –72 aircraft would be deployed on this route. Air Deccan already connects Madurai with Chennai.With the launch of the Madurai–Bangalore direct flight, the airline will become the only airline to provide non-stop service between Madurai and Bangalore. Air Deccan has the largest network in India today covering 56 airports, plying 270 flights a day. The airline has recorded an on time performance of 98.33 per cent for August 2006. The airline which had carried three million passengers in the year 2005 – 2006 had carried an equal number in the first half of 2006, he said.

The Madurai–Bangalore daily flight is scheduled to leave Bangalore at 17.15 hours and reach Madurai at 18.45hours. The flight will leave Madurai at 1900 hours and reach Bangalore at 20.30 hours.

The Tuticorin – Chennai flight introduced recently was very successful with around 90 per cent occupancy. One more flight could be operated to Tuticorin provided better lighting facility was installed at the airport for night landing.

It has also planned to operate flights to Salem from the third week of November. Coimbatore has already become the airline’s second hub in Tamil Nadu.
